Who we are & scope
This Privacy Policy explains how TransitZoom (“we”, “us”) handles information across our online services, including the TransitZoom website (the “Site”) and our mobile applications (the “Apps”). We refer to the Site and the Apps together as the “Services.” This policy applies to the Services and any features we operate that interact with them.

Affiliation & data sources
TransitZoom, the Site, and the Apps are not officially affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the transit agencies referenced in the app names. Agency names are used only to describe coverage areas. Schedules, routes, and (where available) real-time information are obtained from publicly provided sources such as agency open data portals and General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) static and GTFS-Realtime feeds, and are used under the applicable terms or licenses. All trademarks and brand names are the property of their respective owners.
What we collect and why
1) Website basics
When you visit the Site, our hosting and security systems may automatically receive standard technical information such as your IP address, browser or user agent, and pages requested. This is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure, measure basic performance, and prevent abuse.
2) Cookies & local storage (website)
The Site may use essential cookies or local storage to remember preferences like language, theme, or recently viewed cities. These are used to operate and improve the Site.
3) Browser location (website)
Certain Site features (for example, nearby stops) may ask your browser for location access. You control this in your browser; if allowed, the location is used only to provide that feature.
4) Device location (apps)
In the Apps, when enabled, we access your device’s location to show nearby stops, center the map, and improve transit features. We do not send precise location to ad partners; ads may infer a general location from IP address.
5) Advertising in Apps (Google AdMob)
Some Apps use Google AdMob to display ads. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect information such as IP address for general location, app interaction events (launches, taps, video views), diagnostic information (crash logs or performance), and device identifiers (Advertising ID and App Set ID) for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention. Personalization depends on your device or account settings and any consent you provide.
6) Diagnostics & performance (apps & site)
We may receive de-identified or aggregated diagnostics such as stability and performance to help keep the Services reliable. Your operating system, app store, or browser may also process diagnostics under their own policies.
7) Local preferences (apps)
The Apps store limited settings on your device (for example, last city, filters, or consent choices) using local storage such as AsyncStorage. These preferences remain on your device unless you delete the App or clear data.
What we do not collect
No user accounts or contact details (name, email, phone, postal address) are required to use the Services. We do not collect payment or billing details. We do not accept user-generated content uploads, except what is necessary to provide a feature you choose to use.
How we use information
We use information to provide and improve core transit features such as stops and maps, to show and measure ads in Apps that use AdMob, and to maintain security, prevent fraud or abuse, and diagnose issues.
Legal bases (EEA/UK)
Our processing is based on consent (for example, personalized ads where shown, tracking permissions, and optional location access in the browser or app) and on legitimate interests (for example, non-personalized ad delivery and measurement, basic diagnostics, and essential security).
Sharing
We share data with service providers only as needed to run the Services. Examples include hosting, content delivery, and security providers for the Site, and Google AdMob for ads in certain Apps. These partners process data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell personal information.
Your choices & controls
You can manage cookies and site permissions, including location, in your browser settings. On Android, you can manage personalized ads and reset the Advertising ID in system settings and use Google’s My Ad Center. On iOS, you can allow or ask an App not to track and change this later under Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. You can also enable, disable, or change location precision in device or browser settings, noting that nearby features may be limited if disabled. Where offered, in-app settings let you adjust privacy choices.
Children’s privacy
The Services are intended for general audiences and not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information processed by the Services, use secure transport (HTTPS), and rely on partners that encrypt data in transit.
Retention
Local preferences are stored on your device or browser until you delete them or uninstall an App or clear site data. We do not maintain server-side profiles for marketing. Partners may retain data under their own policies.
International transfers
Service providers and platforms may process data on servers located outside your country. See their respective privacy policies for details.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where required, provide an in-app or on-site notice or obtain consent.
